Artist
Megumi Ito
This collaboration reflects Fahad Hariri’s wish to root Pinto in the tradition of a French design house, driven by exacting craftsmanship and open to artists and to influences from elsewhere. The meeting with Megumi Mihels grew out of a shared sensitivity to light, fragility and the craftsman’s gesture. Conceived as a genuine creative exchange, the project allows the artist to enrich the Maison’s language while preserving the singularity of her own world.
During a visit to Pinto’s materials library, made up of hundreds of baskets holding the Maison’s fabrics, a few volumes laid out on the floor were enough to spark the idea of the pendant light. A week later, Megumi Mihels sent over a first sketch. Discovering the Des Tresses and Shibari collections extended this intuition and gave rise to a shared language, through exchanges that gradually shaped the design of the piece.
The pendant light is made up of a succession of faceted volumes, evoking both baskets and light, suspended architectures. Their textile weave lets a warm, diffused light filter through, while a network of knotted cords runs through and links the different modules. The geometric rigour of the forms plays against the irregularity of the handcrafted gesture, revealing the finesse of the weaving in a play of shifting shadows. The whole forms a sculptural, airy and tactile piece in which structure and fragility echo one another.
